Restorative Rocker Plans

Outdoor rocking chair

These free plans are the updated Restorative Rocker version of the outdoor rocking chair project. The original chair has been in use for nearly ten years and has become my favorite outdoor relaxation spot.

The chair is simple enough to repair, too. After it took a spill off a porch and broke a leg support, I used the plans to cut a replacement part and swapped it in because the chair is screwed together instead of being permanently locked into one piece.

The download includes the updated PDF plan set and a zipped SketchUp companion file.

Optional contributions go toward turning ads off for everyone on this site.

Material Note

The original build used leftover outdoor lumber from a porch repair. The updated plan keeps the outdoor rocker idea, but material choice is still up to the builder. If you choose pressure-treated lumber, use your best judgment and check current guidance for the material you buy. In general, avoid pressure-treated surfaces where there will be regular bare-skin contact, and consider naturally durable wood, sealed exterior-grade lumber, or another outdoor-safe material for touch surfaces.

This plan is part of the free Plan-to-Build library. The files download directly, so readers do not need a cart, account, or zero-dollar checkout.

The build notes include more detail on the original chair, comfort after years of use, and a real repair where a broken support was replaced from the plan drawings.
